This is a copy of the handout I will give at my workshop this weekend at Portcon Maine titled "Anatomy for the Mangaka."

My philosophy is that once you understand the structure of bones and how muscles attach to them, anatomy is a snap. So at the panel I will review trouble zones I find in the amateur mangaka, and then I will show how professional mangaka have altered the anatomy of their characters but remain true to the structure.

This is just a doodle of all the zones, with a large portion dedicated to the hand and foot per request of the audience.

No, no, its not that great, but if we can walk away with an understanding of the insertion point of the pectoralis major and the bone structure of the hands, I will be happy.

Hope it goes well.

When is this workshop of yours? I shall have to attend :D Portcon, so close!
The little happy faces on the skulls made me giggle ^_^
:iconkorimichele:
Lol thanks for appreciating teh anime faces.

Thursday Nite, 4 PM. Will you be there?
:iconstarrythursday:
Totally. I'm going down on Wednesday via bus and staying with Jeff in Oak Street. Can't wait! See you there dude

This is badass. I often have trouble with the hips, but more specifically the top of the legs and the shoulders, so this is very handy for me. :]

LOL.

Wow, glad you found it helpful. Your work rocks my socks (Doesn't look like you need any help from any of my silly little drawings, ha ha!)

No way! My poses are way too rigid, they're just like 'bumf!'. There's no motion or anything good in them because I have so much trouble with proper anatomy. :(
My problem is if I started over from scratch, everything would start looking awful and it would feel like I'm just going backwards. Your tutorial was very helpful because I like my drawings with a touch of realism, so I'm definitely interested in how a pro would alter anatomy but still get all the good bits in. I hope your workshop goes well! :)
