This is a copy of the handout I will give at my workshop this weekend at Portcon Maine titled "Anatomy for the Mangaka."
My philosophy is that once you understand the structure of bones and how muscles attach to them, anatomy is a snap. So at the panel I will review trouble zones I find in the amateur mangaka, and then I will show how professional mangaka have altered the anatomy of their characters but remain true to the structure.
This is just a doodle of all the zones, with a large portion dedicated to the hand and foot per request of the audience.
No, no, its not that great, but if we can walk away with an understanding of the insertion point of the pectoralis major and the bone structure of the hands, I will be happy.
No way! My poses are way too rigid, they're just like 'bumf!'. There's no motion or anything good in them because I have so much trouble with proper anatomy. My problem is if I started over from scratch, everything would start looking awful and it would feel like I'm just going backwards. Your tutorial was very helpful because I like my drawings with a touch of realism, so I'm definitely interested in how a pro would alter anatomy but still get all the good bits in. I hope your workshop goes well!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
